What is it?
A five session intensive video course that provides the foundation of legato playing on the ukulele so that all of your notes glide into one another, making for a professional and pleasing sound.
Who is it for?
Ukulele players who aren't happy with their fretting hand techniques such as hammer ons, pull offs and slides, or any ukulele players that have never met these techniques before. Anyone who feels that when they play melodies or riffs don't achieve a smooth sound, and feel like something is missing.
What is the outcome?
An understanding of how to use these three techniques to achieve a smoother sound, and how to properly play with a legato feel when connecting notes, playing riffs and melodies so that your sound is much smoother and natural sounding.
Lesson Breakdown:
- Lesson 1: Finger magnets - Sammy will teach you the importance of when and how to move your fingers on the fretboard when connecting notes so that we smoothen out our sound. Plenty of exercises included to help us with this for our ongoing ukulele life!
- Lesson 2: Power, not speed - Sammy will talk about the importance of understanding what the hammer technique is actually for, and how we can strengthen our sound on the ukulele whilst using them. Again, many exercises to help us command our hammer ons until they are perfect.
- Lesson 3: Player 2 - Sammy talks about the pull off technique, and the common traps people fall into so they don’t sound natural and smooth. We’ll also talk about how to support the ukulele when your fretting hand is constantly letting go of the fretboard - we want you to be in control and comfortable.
- Lesson 4: Sliding around - Sammy will teach you how to achieve a smooth slide technique on the ukulele, and how this can seamlessly connect notes and make our playing sound so much more….smooth. More exercises to help all your fingers and hurt your brain.
- Lesson 5: Smooth like butter - Sammy will talk about the grace note technique and theory, which when used injects a lot of excitement and personality into your playing. We’ll finish off by talking about how to use all the techniques we covered to turn a regular riff or melody into a mcuh more professional sound, so you can leave the course and carry this work with you into your own playing.
This course will be held on Zoom. The lesson recordings will be sent out to participants afterwards so no worries if you can't make it to the live sessions.
The timezone is CET (Northern Europe) so please convert to check the timings for where you are.

What is it?
A five session intensive video course that provides a further look into bass playing on the mini bass/ubass. This course is a perfect follow on from my previous course 'Intro to Bass'.
Who is it for?
Beginner/Intermediate Mini bass players who are looking to become a better bass player by learning some scale theory so they create fills that are rhythmically and musically fun, and well as learning how to create more complex basslines.
What is the outcome?
An understanding of how to create fills for any bassline/song, how to write basslines over 7th chords and how to use chords on bass.
Lesson Breakdown:
- Lesson 1: Major vs Minor - Sammy will teach you the best way to learn and play your major and minor scales on the bass. We’ll talk about how we can use them to help us create better sounding basslines, and how to use approach notes.
- Lesson 2: 5 Notes Win - Sammy will teach you the pentatonic scale and the most important 2 positions for any bass player. We have 5 shapes to cover, but we talk about the theory of how to use these scales all over the fretboard.
- Lesson 3: Creating Fills Easily - Sammy will teach you how to create bass fills/riffs for when we want to put some more adventure into our basslines! Using the scales we learnt so far we’ll know what fills to use over what chords and when to use them.
- Lesson 4: 7th Chord Arpeggios- Carrying on from our arpeggios in the first course, we talk how to add extensions to our arpeggios so we can cover maj7, min7 and dom7 chords.
- Lesson 5: Playing Chords - Sometimes we need some thick bass chords to give some texture! Sammy will teach you the best shapes to use for playing chords on bass, and how to apply a mellower sound for when we need it.
This course will be held on Zoom. The lesson recordings will be sent out to participants afterwards so no worries if you can't make it to the live sessions.
