Composing your own Fingerstyle Pieces ukulele course
What is it?
A 5 week intensive course that will teach you how Sammy approaches composition for ukulele fingerstyle pieces, giving you a detailed breakdown on the steps you can follow to start writing your own pieces.
Who is it for?
It's for anyone who would love to create their own fingerstyle pieces on the ukulele, anyone who would love to be more confident with just sitting and making sounds with the ukulele and anyone who is currently writing pieces for the ukulele and would like another perspective.
What is the outcome?
You'll have a step by step breakdown into how to start composing for the ukulele, learning what chords fit together and how to start adding melody on top of chords along with a good knowledge of how your fretboard works.
Lesson breakdown:
Week 1 : Chord and melody blueprint - we talk about using music theory to help us create a blueprint to find chords and melodies that fit together well without any guess work.
Week 2 : Picking patterns and movement - we learn some basic fingerstyle patterns to use for our piece, and then talk about modifying our chords to create melody underneath and how we can craft chord changes into this.
Week 3 : Melody first, harmony second - we talk about how to write a melody line/riff on the ukulele, and how we can cleverly apply chords underneath to create harmony for our melody.
Week 4: Transforming an idea into a piece - we talk about how it's easy to get stuck on a single small idea, and how we can take that idea and expand it into a full ukulele fingerstyle piece. We'll talk dynamics to help us create other sections that compliment and fill out our piece.
Week 5: Bringing your ideas - for the final lesson you will bring your ideas to Sammy and he will talk about where he would take the piece, how you could modify it or some new ideas to get you thinking. If no one wants to bring ideas then Sammy will have some starting points and we'll work through them together so you can see the process live and ask any questions.
This course was held live on Zoom this year, you will receive the recordings from these sessions along with all the material.
